If you are planning competing with your dog there are a few steps you need to do before you can go to your first KC show

 

Choosing a name

If your dog is not already registered with the Kennel Club you need to register on the activities register and choose a name for your dog.

Measuring

All dogs must be measured before their first competition.

 

All small and medium dogs and dogs who are not 'obviously large' must be measured twice and must be at least 15 
months old before their first measurement. There 2nd measurment must be between 12 and 24 months from their first measurment.

 

Heights are

Large: 
For dogs measuring over 43 cm (1ft 5ins) at the withers. 
Medium: 
For dogs measuring over 35 cm (1ft 1.75ins) and 43cms (1ft 5ins) or under at the 
withers. 
Small: 
For dogs measuring 35cm (1ft 1.75ins) or under at the withers.
